Print Friendly MapThe Upper Struve Slough Trail is part of a network of trails running through Watsonville's wetlands, offering a natural, outdoor experience and birding hotspot right in the heart of an urban area. The trail begins on the north side of Main Street and continues north along the Struve Slough, switching from bank to bank. Trail spurs lead to Hope Drive and Montebello Drive, offering easy neighborhood access.
The waterway is 5 miles long; explore its southern end on the other side of Main Street along the Ohlone Loop Trail. Or, continue on a neighboring marsh along the Watsonville Slough Trail.
Parking can be found at the south end of the trail at the Watsonville Square shopping center, located along Main Street and Green Valley Road.
We've walked several of the paths that make up the trail system of the Wetlands of Watsonville. They wind around and sometimes cross sloughs. We love them and highly recommend them. The Upper Struve Slough Trail is a nice walk but it is not our first choice of the several trail options. It is less scenic than the other slough trails, less birds to see, less water. Perhaps the time of year - we did it in October - makes a difference, but for us there was little water. It was a walk through dry wetlands. It was totally accessible - wheelchair or scooter.
