Tyler State Park Trails Description

Tyler State Park, located in Newtown, Pennsylvania, covers over 1,700 acres on the grounds of an old farm in a charming woodland setting. The park features a network of interconnected trails, including more than 10.5 miles of paved trails open to cyclists, walkers and in-line skaters and 4 miles of hiking trails. Horseback riders can enjoy over 9 miles of bridle paths that run alongside the scenic Neshaminy Creek, which flows through the property. In winter, cross-country skiing is allowed, and in warmer months there are opportunities for fishing and canoeing along the creek.

The trails network through the park is well maintained, over eight feet wide, and features occasional picnic tables for rest stops. Within the park it is possible to see remains of the old farm in the form of original stone buildings that date back to the early 18th century, as well as a replica of a covered bridge. This is hilly terrain, however, so note that trails on the west side of the creek in particular can have some steep inclines. In addition to trails, the park offers disc golf, hosts events at its Center for the Arts, and offers environmental education programs.

Parking and Trail Access

To reach Tyler State Park from Interstate 95, take Exit 49 (Newtown/Yardley). Head west on the Newtown Bypass (State Route 332) to follow the edge of Newtown. The entrance to the park is on the left, at the intersection of SR 332 and Swamp Road. Parking areas are available throughout the park.

nice park for walking and biking

Nice, wide paved paths. Lots of walkers on a Wednesday morning. Hardly any bikes, probably because most paths are hilly. Not a problem if you have gears or e-assist.

Beautiful Park

Started jogging at Tyler in 1987.Many miles of beautiful paved trails. Some trails are very hilly, others relatively flat.Park scenery is gorgeous. The covered bridge is a highlight.Other park building date back over 100 years. If you're new to jogging/walking at Tyler, please get a map. It's very easy to become lost on some trails on the park's west side.

i used to live across the street from the park

It is a beautiful park. I would not say it’s very conducive to biking. It’s an amazing walking park. Beautiful. Lots of scenery. An awesome covered bridge. Two dams. But this is not a park that you’re just going to motor through on your bike. It will be for the most part a very slow ride up and down some extremely steep hills. Park rating is 5. But biking,,,,,, 3.

Beautiful Park-Not for bicycles

Great park and would recommend for walking but not conducive to bikes.

Accordion

i love this park

there are so many little paved loop trails in this park. it has incredible views, a creek wandering through it, a disc golf course (if you like to throw frisbees while you hike!!) and plenty of trees to shade you on sunny & hot days or protect you from rain showers on cloudy days

Beautiful for walking- Too hilly for biking

Tyler state park has many intermingling trails, but all are very hilly. Be careful planning your route as the map doesn't clearly identify the wooded nature trails verses the paved/graveled paths. We walked about five miles, which is a regular distance for me, and boy do I feel it the next day. Almost always going up or down a hill. Some beautiful views, and if your on a paved section, nice walk. Easy to get a little turned around just due to the number of trails and amount of times they intersect.
