The Tomahawk Creek Greenway follows its namesake waterway through the Kansas City suburbs of Overland Park and Leawood for 12.2 miles.
About the Route
Along its entire route, the greenway provides access for the thousands of nearby residents to a number of commercial centers as well as athletic fields, parks, and two golf courses. Much of the trail’s route is heavily wooded, offering a peaceful respite from daily life in the surrounding nature.
Notable parks along the route include Tomahawk Park, Hawthorne Valley Park, I-Lan Park, Beth Torah Park, and Switzer Park, which is the largest and most notable.
Connections
At the northern end of the trail, the route connects to the Indian Creek Bike/Hike Trail.
At 127th St., the trail intersects with the Nall Avenue Path.
The Tomahawk Creek Greenway connects with the Switzer Road Trail.
The Tomahawk Creek Greenway runs between 11116 Brookwood St. (Leawood) and South Plfumm Rd. (Overland Park).

Detours from 69 construction make this confusing to get to where you want to go. Hopefully when the construction is done it will be easier. Need some better Detour signs. Nice ride thru the trees.
Have taken this trail both on foot and via bike. Great trail with views of the creek but is really busy on weekends. Rode most recently on a Sunday morning and needed to slow down a lot to pass walkers. Would recommend especially during the week

Didn’t take the fork going towards blue valley north high school, but trail is pretty and winds along the creek and a golf course. Great ride
Started by renting a bike from Bicycle Shack they set me up with a great bike. Then hit the trail. It a great trail little tricky got miss directed a few time. Love riding along the water. Did see a deer.
A beautiful trail, easy to use, well maintained, highly recommend.
We went on a busy Sunday afternoon and found friendly people and plenty of cool dogs to pet. The trial is well maintained and features views of woods, a quiet creek, and slices of urban life. Great place for a walk.
This is such a beautiful trail. Look out for the "tour de france" trainers. There is no yielding to pedestrians, those pushing strollers, walking toddlers. This is a strictly fast bicycle trail. It has been so for a few years. I recommend separate hours for bicycles and for pedestrians before there is an accident.
We just moved into the area and rode this trail on Saturday 10/1/16. It's a lovely trail, cutting through small areas of trees, foliage and creeks. It has many exits onto streets. It appears there are areas that flood, be aware if you are cycling/walking after heavy rain.
Great paved trail with lots of nature and shaded areas. There is a bathroom stop near the golf course with clean bathrooms and a water fountain.
We love this trail and ride it at least weekly. Connects to a couple of other trails, the Indian creek in Overland Park and one that heads east into Missouri out of lee park. We often do a loop of about 25 miles without ever leaving the trail. It is well maintained and for the most part pretty bike friendly. It can be very busy at times with walkers, dog owners, joggers and family kiddos so during the obvious busier times like right before or after dinner and on the weekend mornings be extra cautious. Beware too after big rains as some of the under road passes get muddy and surprise you. Overall a great trail and we feel blessed to have it so close.
I consider this trail to be my "home" trail. I can get on the trail within a mile of my house. I ride all the way into Missouri on this trail and the Indian Creek Trail. I think Tomahawk Trail is among the best in Johnson Co.
I ride this trail almost every day, and the only thing preventing it from being five stars in my book is the fact that the pavement is showing some signs of age. There are a few nasty utility cuts in the section just north of Leawood Park and some quick patchwork has made for uneven surfaces in several areas. This is nothing that couldn't be fixed by a good resurfacing, but it seems the trail was much better maintained in the 90s. Having said that, the trail rewards riders and walkers with great views of the creek and I get a good wildlife picture almost every time I ride it. A few days ago I had to slow down for a mom and some kids on bikes while crossing the creek just north of the park and caught a doe getting a cool drink about 25 feet away.
Very easy to get to - and despite being in suburbia, gives you the peaceful feeling of being in nature. Creek-crossing bridges, many trees, wildlife including birds, squirrels, and even a turtle or two resting on rocks in the creek. A few "ponds" to enjoy and nicely paved trail perfect for biking, hiking/walking.
