The Old Highway 40 Bike Path parallels the Union Pacific Railroad and Amtrak's Capitol Corridor line through eastern Davis. Running on the former US 40 right-of-way, the trail is primarily a commuting route that serves as a non-motorized transportation alternative to adjacent Interstate 80.
The trail connects to the East Davis Greenways that course throughout the city. To reach West Sacramento, trail users can continue on County Route 32A from the trail's eastern endpoint to pick up the Yolo Causeway Bike Path.
There are no dedicated parking areas for the Old Highway 40 Bike Path, and trail users should note that there is no access to the path from Olive Drive to Mace Boulevard.
