The Lakeside Trail system offers more than 25 miles of paved paths through the villages of Fruitport, Ferrysburg, and Spring Lake. Its main loop circles Spring Lake (the lake) and encompasses spur trails through the towns of Spring Lake and Ferrysburg. The trail links scenic parks with waterfront vistas, charming neighborhoods and village amenities. You can also connect to the North Bank Trail, Grand Haven Waterfront Trail, and Linear Trail Park.
In Ferrysburg, there are widened shoulders on North Shore Road, which you can use to reach North Beach Park and North Pier Park along the Lake Michigan.
Access the trail system from just about anywhere in the three villages. Park at Central Park in Spring Lake, Pomona Park in Fruitport and Ferry Park in Ferrysburg. All three have restrooms and water.
Not a bad ride for locals. Drove a couple hours to ride here. To be clear, this is mostly a paved path by the road with houses you ride by. You only have a few lake overlooks. Was hoping for much more lake and a lot less riding through what felt like a woody housing addition
We did about 20 miles and it was very nice some parts have heavy traffic but most is separate and nice. Would do it again for sure!
Great trail. Paved, off-road the entire way around Spring Lake. Lots of shade, fun sized hills, pretty well marked. Thoroughly enjoyable, especially if you detour off the path a block and go to Miss Lisa's for ice cream--it's on 3rd near the Ferryville park.
This trail is mainly sidewalks in good condition. "Trail" not really marked. Best to wing it. We just rode our bikes around in circles (ok, squares). I think it's best not to have a plan or a destination, just ride around on it until you get tired, or bored.
My wife and I did it in early spring. We liked that it is a loop. Also liked the combination of urban and rural scenery. A bit more signage would get it a five star. At one point we realized we had missed a turn and were on a spur. The trail is safe and is paved all the way with some sidewalks.
I rode this trail on a beautiful day and enjoyed riding around Spring Lake, through the downtown area and through residential areas. I even encountered a doe and her baby right on the trail. A little confusing how to get to Ferrysburg or Grand Haven (signs not there) but now that I know it is easy. Trail is in excellent shape and very safe.
