The Lake Metroparks Greenway Corridor runs for more than 5 miles through Painesville, Painesville Township and Concord Township. The elevation rises a little more than 200 feet from Painesville (north end) to Concord Township. A short disconnected portion of trail on the southern edge of Concord Township stretches between Girdled Road and Colburn Road, where it connects directly to Geauga County's Maple Highlands Trail.
The trail is mostly rural in feel, passing through a wooded corridor among suburban back yards and natural areas. The route follows an abandoned right-of-way of the old Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O). The original tracks through here were built in 1870 to join the county with Lake Erie for shipping coal and iron ore.
In Concord Township, park at the southern end of the main stretch of trail on Ravenna Road or at the Old Stone School just south of Interstate 90 off Ravenna Road. In Painesville, park in a small lot just north of Johnnycake Ridge Road/State Route 84 where it intersects with Bank Street, Liberty Street and Ravenna Road. You can also park at the high school on Walnut Avenue.
For the southern stretch of trail, parking is available at a trailhead on Girdled Road just east of SR 44.
PLEASE, when passing on the trails, announce yourself by saying "on your left ". It is common courtesy , and a safety issue.
Nice trail. Short but still offers a little challenge with a few hills. We parked at school house parking lot. Cute community park along access road. Stopped at entrance to chair factory falls trail.
Short Sunday morning jog while traveling in the area. Nicely paved trail. Great for walking, running or biking.
I rode the The Lake Metroparks Greenway Corridor in May of 2017. This is a trail that is little over 5 miles in length but due some road construction in the south, and poor signage in Painesville, OH I did not ride the last half mile or so at the northern end. As you come into Painesville you are directed onto the street to cross an active rail line at a protected crossing (safety first), however there was no sign at Walnut Avenue directing those unfamiliar with the trail back onto remaining length of the trail. So instead I ended up following Liberty Street down to the Painesville town square which probably was more photogenic anyway. It wasn't until I returned home that I discovered that I missed out on this last part of the trail. This trail is missing an approximate 1.75 mile segment from It current southern end at Ravenna Road to a small trail link that heads south from Girdled Road to connect to the Maple Highlands Trail and Chardon, OH. I have no knowledge as to whether this missing link is in the works but from online maps filling this gap may be contentious as it crosses through Quail Hollow Golf Resort. Spanning this gap and connecting the of two parts of the Maple Highlands Trail through Chardon, OH could create a single trail of approximately 27 miles.
The trail is supposed to be 5.1 miles, it is, if you count the extension into Concord and ride along the streets of Painesville. We parked at the old stone school in Concord and biked over I-90 and up and down some hills and the trail ended. Then you take some streets and bike to downtown Painesville. We were on some heavily traveled roads into downtown. Ate lunch at a fast food place in downtown then rode back. It was paved, and hilly. Honestly, the trail part of the trail is less than 3 miles. We hoofed it to the waterfall which is off the trail.
Love that I'm close to this trail. Bit of an uphill but that makes it all the better
Mostly uphill if you start in Painsville. Lots of elevation change and mostly downhill coming back. Good scenery and a really nice waterfall is off the trail down a VERY steep dirt path. Worth checking out. I ride it once per week and its a good workout. Only thing i don't like is a few intersections at the bottom of hills!
"Very nice well kept trail. 3 mile uphill climb when heading south, but going back north is a breeze.
