The Fish Creek Trail travels east-west through city neighborhoods along its namesake waterway, connecting Grand Prairie and Arlington. Where the two meet, a medallion featuring the logos of both cities is embedded under a commemorative metal archway. At the trail's eastern tip is Cravens Park, which offers more walking trails, baseball fields and other recreational amenities.
From I-20, travel south on Matlock Road, turn left on Cravens Park Drive and take the second right into the park (at Youpon Drive). A parking lot is available near this park entrance.
Great early morning adventure! Less traffic and various options available....short or longer stretches, or walking, biking, or running..
Best to do trail early in the day bring water because thirst can sneak on you.
I love to ride this trail. I will be glad when the construction at Cravens Park is finished so we can ride the entire trail again.
nice long trail I can get my miles, but pretty so I'm not dredding my run. near neighborhoods feels safe
Good long trail for biking. Early morning venture had less traffic till later on. Watch for dog bombs on the East side as some owners don't clean up. Water fountains are few so bring water. One part was closed at Collins I believe due to mud on the pathway from flooding.
Beautiful trail. Great for a long walk...very big...turtles can be spotted in the creek. A hidden gem in Arlington.
I've run many trails but this past weekend was my first time on this trail.
I started somewhere in the middle and went a little more than 4 miles to the west to the end of the trail and then back and to the east end of the trail.
Going west, I was surprised that there actually was more tree coverage than I expected. There are several underpasses under major streets and after heavy rains they can get very muddy... like 1-2 inches of mud.. but not a big problem. It has .25 mile markers the whole route which is nice if you need them. I notice about .75 miles from the end of the trail at Matlock road, the trail gets even narrower so I am guessing it is an older part of the trail?
I think there are waterfountains in the park near Matlock, but other than that you have about 4.5 miles til the next nearest water fountain which is on the east side of the trail across 360. Then there is another water fountain about 1 mile further down the east side. The west side seems more close (tucked in) to nature with all the close trees and the east side seems more wide open with fields and such. Overall it is a nice trail but it could improve with one or two more water fountains and at least one bathroom somewhere...
Let me update my previous review (which did not turn out so well due to Siri auto-correct from my IPhone). Overall, this is a nice trail. There are several things to take note of however: trail gets a lot of pedestrian use...this, combined with twisty nature of trail in places and close proximity to parks/recreation areas and neighborhoods means you get lots of inattentive pedestrians, kids and animals to watch out for.
Additionally, Concrete block nature of trail construction means there is a significant drop (4-5") from trail edge to surrounding ground. In places where grass grows up against trail, there is still a hidden 4-5" rut between trail edge and sodded grass which is just wide enough to trap a bike tire that carelessly strays off the path (very dangerous). Bottom line, pay attention, especially when passing.
This is a beautiful well-maintained relatively new trail. It's mostly smooth, new concrete block. It's well-suited for a leisurely ride, but not so well-suited for anyone looking for speed run. While there are some straightaways, the vast majority of the trail is very Windee was some type corners and places. Combine that with the fact that winds through Parks and residential neighborhoods and you have a lot of pedestrians on the trail. This makes it difficult to get any real speed along it's distance. It is deceptively speak smooth but there are places you have to be careful with either standing water or drainage roots going right across the trail. Overall a nice rides residential neighborhoods and parks
I cycle this trail at least 3x a week and I have yet to get bored. Excellent riding path, great and changing scenery, mild to medium inclines. Recommended!
For the cyclist new to the game, this a great length trail. It is beautiful and mostly flat. My husband and I enjoyed it immensely!
Nice trail enjoyed the ride. a mix of communities, parks, picnic areas, and plenty of trees. A few hazards you want to watch out for are missing pole, and drainage ditch.
