Following the natural corridor formed by its namesake creek for just over a mile, the Dry Run Creek Trail provides a great opportunity for outdoor recreation and sightseeing right in the heart of the charming small city of Mitchell, South Dakota. The paved trail runs between Minnesota Street and Burr Street just across the railroad tracks from downtown Mitchell, passing through ball fields, picnic areas, and lovely open space along the side of the narrow creek.
With it's convenient location to downtown and adjoining neighborhoods, the Dry Run Creek Trail makes for a great option for getting in a pleasant stroll or quick bike ride while in Mitchell; the city has also been actively working on expanding their community bike path system, with many miles of trail built on or in progress to the north, leading up to scenic Lake Mitchell.
Parking and restrooms are available at Dry Run Creek Park, with a dedicated parking lot located at the end of South Kimball Street, just north of Douglas Avenue. The trail is easily accessible off of exit 332 on Interstate 90 - head north on S Burr Street, then turn left onto Douglas Avenue, and right onto Kimball Street to reach the parking lot.
This was not a good bike trail. My husband and I rode it today and we rode for about 3-4 miles on a major highway that was very busy. The actual trail was very bumpy and at one point we went through a cemetery to find the trail. It was enjoyable but will not be going back to this trail.
