Print Friendly MapThe DeKalb-Sycamore Trail—also known as the Peace Road Trail—parallels the eastern side of Peace Road from DeKalb to Sycamore in northern Illinois. Along the way, you'll pass a mixture of residential neighborhoods, businesses and open fields.
A spur at Bethany Road runs just shy of 1 mile north to South Prairie Elementary School. From here, the trail heads east on an on-road route along quiet residential streets and through Sycamore Community Park to reach the Great Western Trail, a 17-mile rail-trail that travels to St. Charles.
Near the southern end of the trail, another short spur offers a connection to both the DeKalb Nature Trail and Kishwaukee-Kiwanis Trail.
Parking can be found at South Prairie Elementary School (820 Borden Avenue in Sycamore), or at Market Square 10 (2160 Sycamore Road in DeKalb).
I live close enough to bike to this ‘trail’ but to get to it I have to cross a fairly busy street as there is no parking available. This ‘trail’ is more of an extra wide asphalt sidewalk more than anything else. I do enjoy the short ride once I’m on it.
The trail as laid out in the map is not 20.7 miles, but closer to 6.61 miles. The combined mileage of all three DeKalb-Sycamore trails is around 12.7 miles.
The good about this trail. Smooth, paved, slight inclines, wide enough to pass without trouble, three major street crossings are with traffic lights.
The bad. The majority of the trail is wide open and exposed, no shade, no wind breaks.
The super good. The powers that be are expanding the trail. It appears the southern trailhead at Pleasant St will be connected to the western Greenwoods Acres trailhead via the old M&SP railbed.
