The Deadman Trail is a short trail that follows the ominously named Deadman Gulch on the outskirts of Sturgis, and connects to other portions of the city's ten mile bike path system.
Starting in the north at a junction with the Ballpark Road Trail, the path heads south along the normally dry creek bed through an open area, with a view of the railroad tracks to the east. The trail passes under the interstate and hits Raccoon Road, where the path deviates from the gulch and heads down the road, going right onto Otter Road before coming to an end behind a row of homes in a quiet residential neighborhood. The trail allows local residents and children to safely travel off-road across the interstate to reach the local elementary school and other area destinations.
Parking may be available at the nearby Sturgis Elementary School, which is accessable by the Ballpark Road Trail; be sure to follow any posted signs or regulations.
To reach the trail from the direction of Rapid City, take I-90 north towards Sturgis and take exit 32. Proceed onto Junction Ave, then turn left onto Ballpark Road - the trail begins on the left side just after the turn.
