Print Friendly MapThe paved Crosscut Canal Path links Tempe and Scottsdale via a route alongside the Crosscut Canal, which dates to 1912. The trail follows the entire length of the canal thanks to a southern extension in Tempe that opened in 2011.
In the south, the trail winds through Papago Park, a wonder with stunning desert scenery, flora and fauna. As the trail heads north into Scottsdale, the surroundings become more residential. From the path's northern terminus, trail users can continue a short distance northeast on the Arizona Canal Path to reach charming downtown Scottsdale.
Parking is available in Evelyn Hallman Park (1900 N. College Avenue) in Tempe.
Good trail, smooth and pretty flat other than a few minor hills. Great for kids and dogs, but busy with bikes and electric scooters so stay alert. No water or toilets along the whole trail and it could use more signs as the are some branches off it.
A great trail: beautiful scenery, very well kept trails and not heavily trafficked on a weekday. Really the main thing it needs is a better crossing and signage at Thomas and it would be amazing!
The first mile is TOUGH. I roller skated down to downtown Scottsdale. Beautiful maintained trail. Even at night it was gorgeous! I’ll definitely be trying it again during a morning session.
I haven’t been on a bike for almost 31 years ... yikes. This is a nice paved trail. Good mild hills and dips to get a workout for a beginner like me. I only did 2.4 miles in 25 minutes. It’s a good start. I will definitely be back. side note: restrooms are clean, soap is in dispenser for hand washing. I also like that there are people of all ages, pets, and families on the paths, and that the baths are wide enough for 2 lane traffic.
