Located within the Cimarron National Grassland, the Companion to the Santa Fe Trail parallels a portion of the original Santa Fe Trail. The vital 19th century transportation route granted passage to early settlers traveling from Missouri to New Mexico.
The current trail offers scenic views of the surrounding prairie in the largest tract of public land in Kansas. Check out the nearby Turkey Trail for a similar experience.
From Elkhart, Kansas, take State Route 27 north just a few miles to reach the Companion to the Santa Fe Trail's midpoint.
