Parking is available at Shady Side Park in Mt. Clemens (Barbara St. and Shadyside Dr.) and at a small park at 26784 Ballard Street.
This is a very nice wide path that goes I think a little over 2 miles in one direction It has just been resurfaced and is very level. At the starting point near the parking lot is a bathroom and drinking fountains. They also have picnic tables and benches along the path. The only drawback is there’s a spot where at the freeway is very close to the trail and it’s kind of loud.
This trail was a great walk! Beautiful scenery as you walk along the water. Restroom near the end of the trail.
The trail is in very poor condition. Many bumps and large cracks in the pavement.
We joined this trail a little short of the mid-point when we connected from the Metro Parkway Trail. To continue on the Metro Parkway after I-94, I think we should have gone to the left. However, the ride to the right took us through a tree-lined path at the river's edge. The end of it was a short hop across the road to see where the Clinton River meets Lake Saint Clair.
From the parking lot to the park and then all the way to the deck overlooking where the river flows into Lake St. Clair is about 5 miles.
This was a good extra 5 miles attached to the metro trail. Was able to ride 20 miles a day with this additional 5 miles right off the metro trail.
5/31/16: Have rode this trail many times but for first timers I tried to ride the trail a couple weeks aggo with my wife and there is construction and the trail is closed on the other side of the freeway (not sure which direction this is) heading to downtown Mount Clemens.
The trail from the freeway to Lake St. Clair along the spillway is open and the trail from the freeway / spillway heading out to Metro Beach is also open.
Not sure what or how long the construction is planned for. I enjoy riding this section of the spillway to Mount Clemens as normally there are few people on the trail.
this is a great trail which is ride alot Weekly, But there is a part up the hill towards the lake that is really hard on Road bike. Roots have tore up the pavement pretty bad. But it offers one of the few hills in the area. So race on.
