Clarksville Heritage Trail Description

The Clarksville Heritage Trail links the residential heart of Clarksville, Indiana, with its growing trail system and two local parks. The trail, which occupies an abandoned Dinky Line railroad corridor donated to the city, begins in the south in Colgate Park, which contains tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, an aquatic center, a playground and picnic shelter.

Extending north from Colgate Park, the trail quickly meets S. Clark Boulevard, where cyclists and pedestrians must share the road with vehicular traffic for a short distance. The off-road route resumes at Harrison Avenue and courses through dense tree cover and past industrial properties until it reaches its northern terminus at the Clarksville Levee Trail. That trail continues north less than 0.25 mile to Midway Park and the wastewater facility off Browns Station Way/Old Indiana 62 and also runs south along the Ohio River to the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center.

Parking and Trail Access

Parking for the Clarksville Heritage Trail is available at Midway Park off Browns Station Way/Old Indiana 62 and Colgate Park at the intersection of S. Clark Boulevard and E. Montgomery Avenue.

Clarksville Heritage Trail Reviews

Nice New Section!

I believe the Levee Trail, Heritage Trail, and the newer section combined is now called The Ohio River Greenway, and it goes all the way to downtown New Albany from Clarksville. It is a very nice asphalt trail most of the 8 or so miles with very little climbing. Put together with other trails in the Louisville Metro Area it makes for a nice long weekend cycling getaway. Be sure to visit the Big Four walking (and cycling) bridge across the Ohio River, and the Louisville Loop —especially the section in the Parklands of Floyd’s Fork (20 minutes east) while you are in the area.
