This was my first time on this trail. My husband and I are 72 but love to take walks. The part we were on was wooded with houses around. We parked at the library parking lot. The beginning of the trail at this entrance goes downhill. The rest of the trail that we walked was flat. I say this because my husband has arthritis in his knees and it makes it hard for him to go up and down hills. Of course, when you go down you must come back up at the end of your walk! Loved the trail and will be back.
This is a great feature for Lenoir, NC. My wife and I always take friends and family here for a walk. We also push our daughter in the stroller on the trail and she just goes to sleep. Lenoir has done a great thing here. I love to walk the trial to the Waffle House for breakfast on the weekends. Lenoir needs to expand on this trail as soon as possible.
Great way to get some easy miles with a couple of optional climbs. With Mtn bike you can add about 1.5 miles of dirt trail near the soccer complex to get about a 10 mile loop. A Mountain bike single trek loop has just been added.
Wonderful trails!
The main trails are smoothly paved with some foot bridges and plenty wide enough for bi-directional traffic. Climbs are short and also fun to ride down. Great ride especially if you don't have time to spend a whole day biking. (Approx. 1- 1/2 hrs).
Even the unpaved Aquatic Center Trail is worth jumping on(in a small way is reminiscent to some portions of the Virginia Creeper Trail).
According to some locals, this trail is projected to one day linking up with the Morganton Greenway Trail which is another wonderful trail which follows the Catawba River. Although, this may not occur in our lifetime but who knows...
Nice smooth ride. There are a few minor climbs in some parts of the trail but nothing even an occasional rider can't conquer. Most of the trails are flat and smooth with only a few places where you have to cross a two lane road in order to get to the next part of a trail. Those sections of road have speed bumps to slow drivers down. Shaded portions of trail are very wooded and very beautiful. Lots of walkers here to share the path with on nice days but it won't affect your ride at all. Plenty of space to pass those going slower than you. I would highly recommend this path for riders who don't want a strenuous workout but a nice easy ride.
This Greenway is great for people of all ages and covers a fairly large amount of distance when compared to other area municipal greenways. Surroundings include athletic fields, residential areas, wooded areas and farm land. In addition to the paved trail system, there are many wooded and gravel trails that can be found in the northern section.
