The Cedar View Trail provides a connection between the small cities of Fairfield and Libertyville in southeastern Iowa. A trailhead with parking and information on the trail greets users at the trail's beginning off of 32nd Street in Fairfield, just outside the popular Jefferson County Park. From there, the trail runs 1.4 miles on the old Rock Island Railroad right-of-way, crossing over the nearby highway via a recently-built pedestrian bridge, until it reaches 223rd Street. The remainder of the trail is an on-road route on rural roads, taking trail users west and then south into the quaint little city of Libertyville.
The trail also intersects with the 16-mile Fairfield Loop Trail about a half mile from the trail's start in Fairfield, a useful connection for those looking for a longer hike or ride; a pit latrine is also available at the intersection of the two trails.
Parking is available at the trailhead on 32nd Street in Fairfield.
To reach the trailhead from out of town, head west on US 34 and take exit 212 for Fairfield's Main Street. Take a right on Main Street, followed by a left onto Libertyville Road. Continue on Libertyville Road and then take a right onto S 32nd Street. The trailhead will be on your left.
I found this trail while riding the Fairfield loop that it intersects with on the south side. It’s a nice well packed crushed stone trail with a couple nice bridges and a pit toilet along with benches. I only road the off road part of the trail as I turned around when it changed to gravel roads. I rate this trail 5 stars. Traveling cyclist Facebook
