Print Friendly MapAs you circle Lake Hefner on the Bert Cooper Trails, you will enjoy wide open views of the lake, bustling with sailboats during the summer. A highlight of the trail system, formerly known as the Lake Hefner Trails, is the tall white lighthouse on the lake's eastern shore, an unusual site in the landlocked state.
Traveling the circumference of the lake is a nearly 10-mile journey. Those who wish for a shorter ride or hike may prefer the southern end, which runs through a forested area and offers recreational opportunities at Lakeshore Park and Stars and Stripes Park. The latter has a playground with a large rocket-shaped structure that children will love to climb. Along this shore, you'll also find the lake's largest marina and several fishing piers.
Make a direct connection to the Hefner-Overholser Trail at W. Britton Road to reach Lake Overholser and the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge.
Parking for the Bert Cooper Trails is available at several points along the southern half of the lake: in Lakeshore Park (off W. Lakeshore Drive), off N. Meridian Avenue, and in Stars and Stripes Park (off S. Lake Hefner Drive). Three large parking lots can also be found off Lake Hefner Parkway on the lake's eastern shore.
This is a very nice trail. Contrary to others comments, it does go all the way around the lake.
Loved this trail. Yes, there were lots of people on the trai, but with separate lanes for bikers and walkers, it didn't feel congested at all.
It doesn’t go all the way around the lake. Map shows it but 1/4 is future trail! Worth the ride while passing thy.
This trail for the most part pretty flat, kinda boring. You also really can’t get any speed up safely because it’s usually pretty busy but… the scenery is beautiful from the little house to the marina. I went around sunset so watching the sunset on the water was something. It’s on my way home so I see myself hitting this one 1 lap from lighthouse to lighthouse at a steady pace takes around 30-40 minutes
My boyfriend and I like this trail, it’s flat for the most part, clean, and is relatively pretty. It does get crowded in the afternoon but not terrible. This weekend the wind was rough, for the first few miles it was brutal and the wind resistance was almost unbearable. I definitely recommend not coming on a windy day.
I ride this several times a week from my house. It's a fantastic ride, especially before the sun comes up. I've seen deer, skunks, a weasel of some sort and kittens.
Nice ride around the lake!
Nice flat ride, however the wind is volatile and can and will pick up significantly during your ride. But its a good ride that allows one to work on their form and get a good consistent ride in without much interaction with automobiles.
