The Agassiz Recreational Trail connects the towns of Ulen, Twin Valley, Gary, Fertile, and Crookston. A total of 52-miles, this trail runs parallel to Highway 32 and 102 uninterrupted and allows for users to get not only to other towns, but several wildlife and recreational areas for further exploring. The path is naturally surfaced and available for hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ATV riding. It crosses a number of rivers and creeks along its route, including the Sand Hill, Wild Rice and South Branch Wild Rice Rivers, and Mashaug Creek.
From the south: Parking available on Highway 32 in Ulen
From the north: Parking available at intersection of Highway 9 and 102
A beautiful trail North of Twin Valley. Tree lined, Shady. Several scenic bridges and rivers. A hidden gem.
We started in Ulen and walked 5 miles & back. Its along the highway so it’s pretty loud. Its pretty though. Probably wont go to that part again though, hoping the other parts arent right up against the highway.
The walk from Twin Valley to the next paved road is scenic with river crossing and lots of woodland. Worth the trek.
I've biked/run much of this trail. The trail head beginning in Ulen north to Twin Valley runs right along highway 32. Some sections are rutted grass cover only, the rest hard packed dirt/gravel paths. Gravel can be small class 5, to larger diameter rock. Low pressure in your tires helps. Not scenic. At the north end of Twin Valley, the trail veers off the highway with a few scenic bridge crossings, and some smaller grades to climb. Some sandy areas that can be hard to run/bike on closer to Fertile. All-in-all, this section is very pretty, and offers plenty of shade, and protection from wind.
